Workout

As per my usual Monday morning motivation, I got out of bed with fairly little effort (surprising?!?) to complete a little mix of strength + cardio:

  • 10lb. Slimdown Total Body BLAST
  • 2 mile run

It was simple but shweaty. 😉

Today was kind of a busy day at work, since it was another (but thankfully our last) day of parent-teacher conferences. Remember those? Did your parents ever come home and try to make you nervous over what your teacher told them? Yeah…mine did. Good thing I was “an angel” back then. (Insert sarcasm there) 😉

Since I had conferences scattered all throughout the afternoon, I never really sat down for a full meal, but rather snacked throughout the day. Some days I actually like eating this way, so I really didn’t mind.

After work today, I had an appointment to get my hair done with my mom down at the shop that she works at (SO excited to get some of my red back – it’s even more red than before!) . As soon as I walked into the salon, I was greeted by an unexpected but VERY welcoming little face…

She definitely kept me occupied while hanging out with my hair dye…what a cutie!

Once I got home, it was definitely dinner time…and sandwich time it was.

A simple turkey + provolone cheese, with lettuce, pickles, & a smear of Eggplant Garlic spread. This stuff definitely made the sandwich. SO GOOD!

On the side, I snacked on some of the hubby’s French Onion SunChips – I forgot just how good these babies are. Luckily, I portioned out my serving before, to avoid from making multiple digs into the bag. 😉

Speaking of which, thanks so much to all of you who commented earlier on My Confession post. It was so nice hearing how so many of you are right there along with me. It can be a tough struggle sometimes, but knowing we’ve got support makes it that much easier!

Which is actually part of my motivation for only grabbing two of my Chocolate Chip Dough Balls tonight for dessert…rather than 5. 😯 Hey, it’s a mini accomplishment, right?

I’m Such An Easy Read…

Ahhhh boy…my friends, please forgive me for the extreme lack of variety in my food this week. Hopefully the abundance of pumpkin, and repeat “Monday Usuals” aren’t boring you to death. I’ll tell ya…it’ll be so nice come this weekend when I actually have more than 10 minutes to devote to a meal! Talk about being a busy bee! 😯

Exactly What I Needed

After a Sunday full of indulgent football party food, nothing appeals more to my appetite than the “Monday Usual”. Boring as it may look, it will never get old. Ever.

Some plain Oikos Greek yogurt, topped with a drizzle of honey, cinnamon & nutmeg. It makes all the difference in the world.

Strawberries with another little dusting of cinnamon…because really, when you can ever have too much cinnamon? 😉

And look what else I found this weekend at the grocery store…Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Larabars!!!!!! I cannot WAIT to sink my teeth into this baby. 😯

And finally, here are some answers to some of the great “Ask Me Anything” questions I received from you guys!

What grade do you teach?

What Redken products do you use? Do you use a straightening iron?

Well, here’s all the goods that I’ve acquired over the last couple years. I definitely don’t use them all at the same time, but I like to switch back and forth with a few. For example, one day I might just use the Body Full root lifer, and the next day I’ll use a combination of the Extreme + Align. Very rarely do I use the shine glosses, just because I hate getting my hands all greasy.

I have a straightening iron and a 2-inch barrel curling iron that I alternate. My hair is naturally straight, so the only reason I’ll use the straightening iron is to smooth out the ends. If I feel like a little more curl & volume, I go with the curling iron.

How do you do red highlights without looking silly?

Yikes, this is a tough one! After talking to my mom a few times about it, I’d say there’s a few things you should consider: your natural hair color, your skin coloring, and the effect that you’re going for. For me, I wanted my color to have more of a red undertone, so my mom mixed a bright shade of red with a couple other shades of brown to neutralize it. I’ve always liked my hair colors better with a subtle effect, not the “WOW” your hair is red/blonde/etc.!”. But as always, just work with your hairdresser! And if you’re in need of one, and live in the Upstate NY area, I know a couple good ones to recommend. 😉

How do you plan on teaching your children to eat healthy when you start a family?

What a great question! Children learn so much about food, behaviors, really EVERYTHING through example. I will want my children to know that eating healthy doesn’t have to be bland or boring, and I’ll show them that. I will want to be a role model for them in the kitchen. They’re certainly not going to see me sitting down to dinner with a Hungryman frozen dinner, or watching TV with a box of Twinkies in my lap. But they will see me preparing healthy, nutritious meals and snacks. There’s always got to be a little wiggle room, so I’m not going to restrict them from many foods. But it will be my goal to get them to enjoy healthy foods and making smart choices, not just eating them because they “have to.” Now, does that mean that they won’t see me indulge in the occasional bowl of ice cream or chocolate chip cookie…probably not. But that’s ok! 🙂

It’s Show Time + An Ask Me Anything!

This is it folks – it’s the big “First Day of School!” If only I had some snazzy Lisa Frank folders to tote along with me. 😉

I’m always pretty good at prepping food ahead of time towards the beginning of the year. It’s actually scary how organized I got myself last night:

  • Clothes ironed and outfit + shoes laid out
  • Bags packed
  • Lunch made and packed
  • Breakfast prepped and ready to go
  • Coffee maker set to brew
  • Blog post half ready to go 😉

Breakfast

In preparation for my early morning, I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to make some overnight oats.

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup vanilla almond milk
  • 1/4 water
  • 1/2 mashed banana
  • Golden raisins
  • Cinnamon Date Manna Bread
  • Cinnamon & Pumpkin Pie Spice (it IS that time of year now!)

Topped with a little PB2 and some Bear Naked Fit granola.

Along with my overnight oats, I’m enjoying another delicious mug of Pumpkin Spice coffee. I still can’t get over the “amazingness” of this stuff. SO GOOD. 😀

Lunch

I prepped everything last night, making this morning’s lunch packing ridiculously easy. I wish I could say I know I’ll stick with this kind of on-the-ball routine all year long! 🙄

I put together a fresh mixed-veggie salad, complete with spring mix, cukes, grape tomatoes, red onion, carrots, & corn off the cob.

With the start of the new school year, it’s likely that my meal posts are probably going to be a little less frequent than they have been all summer. With that being said, I’m definitely going to be looking for some other topics that I’ll be able to schedule ahead of time.

The UPS Man Makes Me Giddy

Who doesn’t love getting fun packages in the mail? Really. Whenever I see the UPS truck stop in front of my house, I always get so giddy with suspense, so curious as to what could be making its way to my door. (Have I mentioned I can be a big nerd sometimes?) 😉

Well yesterday I got myself all in a tizzy when I saw the UPS man, decked out in his hot brown shorts, come walking up to my door with not one, but TWO boxes – BOTH for me! Yesssss.

The first box was the second item that I ordered with my credit to CSN Stores: a spring form pan. Uhh ohh, looks like I just might have to add a healthy cheesecake to my baking to-do list! 😀

A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by NuNaturals and was asked if I’d be interested in sampling & reviewing some of their products. I’ve seen some of these products lurking around the blog world, so I decided it’d be fun to try some out. I was quite surprised to see just how many products were sent, along with some great recipes that I’m definitely looking forward to trying. Some of them are even from some fellow bloggies! 🙂

Workout

This morning I trekked on over to the gym to get a little cardio in my life. I did 40 minutes on the elliptical, (covering 3.9 miles) followed up with 20 minutes power walking on the treadmill, alternating inclines and speeds (covering 1.5 miles). It was definitely a good, heart pumpin’ workout, even without running. Many people I’ve spoken with tend to underestimate the power of power walking. It really is a lot tougher to power walk at 4.8mph than it is to jog at 5.0…anyone else with me on that one?

Breakfast

Before leaving for the gym, I snacked on half of an Arnold Sandwich Thin with PB, which did a great job holding me over all morning. On my way home, I had to stop to grab some caffeine. (I really need to start making this at home again…eek 😳 ) I added some vanilla almond milk & a packet of PureVia –delish!

The first thing that caught my eye was a big ‘ol peach that I picked up yesterday from the grocery store. So I sliced that baby up and sprinkled it with some cinnamon. Cinnamon just seems to make everything better in my book. 🙂

As I was eating my peach, I spotted a Larabar that I’ve had sitting around for a while, so I decided I needed it. I had half and saved the rest for later. I really like the pecan pie flavor, but I’m sure it doesn’t even hold a candle to the new cookie dough flavor! Speaking of that, why can I not find it anywhere?!?!?

Then somehow, one of these made their way into my belly. Ok I lied, I had two…who am I kidding?

Hey, they have bananas and oats. They’re both healthy breakfast options. They just happen to be in cookie form. 😉 I actually think they’re even softer today than they were yesterday. Almost cake-like. It will be a sad day when these are gone. Good thing I put some in the freezer!

I’m feeling a little generous this morning, so I’m thinking there may have to be a giveaway this afternoon! Make sure to check back later on! 😀

Quick lunch post for you all today!  As you know, after a weekend full of yummy eats, I always really look forward to my “usual”, so it’s no surprise today that it’s here again!
