It’s still the same good stuff you know and love, just in a new place. 😉

However, if you currently subscribe to STSL, you may have missed the last few posts because of the switch…not sure if this will eventually work itself out, but no worries! You may just need to re-subscribe. 🙂

My Favorite Workouts Giveaway

When it comes to my exercise routine, it’s no secret that I like to switch things up. If I were to stick with the same routine, week after week, I’d be absolutely bored out of my mind. Wouldn’t you?

So between the cardio & the occasional BodyPump classes at the gym, I also have another tried and true resource which is very near and dear to my heart:

Exercise TV:-D

Over the past few months, I’ve tested out some fantastic workouts that have really kicked my boo-tay! 😯 Whether it’s intense cardio, hardcore strength training, or relaxing yoga, they’ve got everything I need.

So as I’ve come to test out quite a few of these workouts, it’s safe to say that I’ve developed a few favorites. And wouldn’t you know…it looks like Christmas came a little early for me!

IMG_7115

A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by the nice folks at Exercise TV, wondering if I’d be interested in doing a review of a couple of their full workout videos. They saw how much I’ve been loving some of the On Demand programs, and thought I might enjoy reviewing the whole video…

I seriously think they read my mind; I’ve been dying to try the full Yoga Meltdown video from Jillian Michael’s!!!

IMG_7116

As soon as I got home yesterday afternoon, I immediately popped Jillian into my DVD player to test out the new goods. I realized that the video I’ve been doing on Demand has been the Level 1, which focuses on quickly flowing yoga sequences to burn more calories. It’s given me a great workout every time so far, but I wanted more, so I stepped it up to Level 2.

Level 2 incorporates a lot more twists and balance poses, some of which I found pretty difficult. Hello, crazy crow pose?!? 😯

After trying both Levels 1 & 2, I think it’s safe to say I like them both equally, and will probably switch back and forth between the two. They both definitely rock!

Alright, so here’s the deal…

You guys know I love you all for being the fantastic readers that you are, right? 🙂 Well, ‘tis the season of giving…and because I love you all so much, I think it’s only fitting to share my favorites with all of you!!

It’s the My Favorite Workouts Giveaway!!!

Exercise TV has generously offered to giveaway one of each of my three favorite workouts:

Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown

Fun Demolition Discoveries

This morning while eating my breakfast, I couldn’t help but shake the feeling that someone had their eyes on me… 😉

IMG_7110

I put together quite a delish bowl of oats today! Before leaving the house, I put together my base:

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup skim milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 mashed banana
  • raisins
  • cinnamon & nutmeg

IMG_7114

Once I got to school, however, I ended up stumbling across some of the leftovers from our faculty breakfast yesterday morning…SCORE!

IMG_7111

So half a piece of some sort of cinnamon apple bread was promptly crumbled on top. Best stumbling EVER. 😉

IMG_7112

Lunch was pretty much a repeat of what you guys saw on Monday, so I didn’t bother with any photos. But I did also have one of these…

Honey Graham Clif Z Bars totally rock my socks!! 😀

So last night, some serious kitchen demo was happenin’ up in this place. In the process of tearing things apart, check out the old school coupons we came across!

IMG_7102

I don’t know why, but I am always so fascinated by things like this that were from back in the day. Can you imagine clipping a coupon for 10¢ nowadays?? 😯

IMG_7103

Well, the coupons ended up being found behind this big ‘ol hunka remaining cabinets…

IMG_7101-1

Which are officially “no longer” and we are now left with no cabinets

IMG_7107

…which also means no sink.

Which is why tonight’s dinner looked like this:

IMG_7120

Yes, I finally had my first trip to Chipotle! No more Chipotle virgin here. 😉

IMG_7121

I chose the Burrito Bowl (all the burrito fix-ins, minus the tortilla) which I ordered with their cilantro-lime rice, black beans, adobo-marinated and grilled chicken, fajita vegetables, lettuce, and salsa.

IMG_7122

And as per hubby’s strong recommendations, I got us a side of chips + guacamole + mild salsa.

IMG_7125

IMG_7126IMG_7127

Now you guys probably already know that I am not a spicy kinda gal. Mild all the way, no extra heat, please! Well I’ll tell ya, I got a little nervous after the first bite into my burrito bowl…

YOWSAHS that chicken was spicy! 😯

IMG_7123

I needed something to tame down the heat, so I grabbed some plain Chobani and dolloped it on there, sour cream-style. Problem solved…deliciousness accomplished. 🙂

IMG_7128

I’m definitely now a fan of Chipotle, and lucky for me, I have a little less than half of this bowl left for lunch tomorrow! Saweeeeet. 😛

SPEAKING OF SWEET…

I have a pretty sweet GIVEAWAY coming up for you guys in the morning! Be sure to check back!!

Question for the Evening:

Have you ever discovered any interesting items from a much earlier time?

The Christmas Treats Clock Is Ticking…

Christmas is right around the corner!! I can’t even believe it!

Have you gotten all of your holiday baking done yet????

Well as you know, I’ve been on a pretty mean baking streak lately, so just in case you’re a “Last-Minute Mary” like I often tend to be, here are a few of my favorite cookies and baked treats (New AND Old!) that may come in handy…

I promise, they’re all winners!! 😀

Mexican Wedding Cookies

Oreo Truffles

Chocolate Gooey Butter Cookies

Maple Pumpkin Gingerbread Cookies

Dark Chocolate Turtle Graham Bars

Lemon Curd Filled Butter Cookies

Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate Butterscotch Cheesecake Cookies

Blueberry Banana Bread

Granola Blondies

Aaaaand, just in case you’re all set on the baking front, how about some Christmas morning breakfast ideas?

Want to know what I’ll be eating on Christmas morning????

It’ll be the same recipes that I’ve been making ever since I received them in my 7th grade Home & Careers class. 😉

Overnight French Toast

and Egg Strata

Is it obvious I’m just a little bit excited for Christmas??

Or maybe I’m just as excited for the eating part of Christmas? 😉

Question for the Day:

Do you have any special meal traditions on Christmas Day?

In addition to my special breakfast seen above, my family always sits down to a nice lasagna dinner on Christmas, complete with Mom’s homemade sauce, meatballs, and bread. Mmmmmm. 😛

One Of Those Days…

Today was one of those days

IMG_7098

😉

To be honest, with being a teacher I pretty much expect this particular week to come with a few of those days.

Does that sound awful of me? I promise, I’m not that much of a scrooge!

Just remember back to when you were in elementary school at this time of year…

You were pretty excited excited for Christmas and vacation, right?

Now imagine that excitement…while me trying to teach you about the English colonies and cumulative frequency…

Yeah, probably not on the top of your priority list, right? 😉 Don’t worry, it isn’t for my students either.

Can you blame them though? I mean, really, Christmas is only 4 days away…of COURSE they’re excited!! So lucky for me, I always make sure to keep an extra bottle of vino on hand for this week, in case of emergency.

IMG_7097

Today, we’ll just say I was rather happy that I remembered to stock up. 😉

So I’ve got my comfies and my cozy slippers on; I’ve got my glass of vino,

IMG_7095

and I’m ready to watch one of my favorite holiday movies, Love Actually.

Which is “actually” exactly how I want to spend the rest of my evening. 🙂

Question for the Evening:

What is one of your favorite childhood memories from around the Holidays??

How To Dress Up Your Baked Good Gifts

Remember the other day when I was getting ready to send off my Blogger Holiday Gift Exchange gift??

IMG_6971

Well, a couple of the goodies tucked away in that package were some of my homemade baked goods. 😛

After spending all those hours slaving away in the kitchen baking cookies, nothing satisfies me more than when I’m able to “share the wealth” with all those around me. 🙂

If I’m not creating cookie platters to bring to work, or sending trays in to work with the hubby, I really enjoy packaging everything up nice and neat for my recipients.

First, I start off by finding some cute little boxes to hold my goods. This year, I was able to find these little cuties at Wal-Mart for only $1.50 each.

IMG_6978

Then I try to use some festive-colored plastic wrap + a little curling ribbon to seal in the freshness of the baked goodies. Simply lining the inside of the boxes with tissue paper (or parchment paper) helps keep everything from “squirming” around. 😉

IMG_6979

When I give a gift of cookies or baked goods, I almost always like to include the recipe. Not only is it fun sharing it, but I think I have even more fun creating the recipe cards!

IMG_6972

This year, I simply typed up the recipes into a word document, and sized them to about the normal size of an index card. On the front I include the ingredients…

IMG_6975

…and on the back are where you’ll find the directions. 🙂

IMG_6974

To make things even more festive, and eye-catching, I usually try to find some different clip art images that “fit the bill.”

IMG_6976

IMG_7032

Hopefully my recipient will enjoy her gifts! 🙂

IMG_6973

Because I know I sure enjoyed the gifts that I received! I was beyond excited when I found out who my “secret blogger” was…

IMG_6999

The one and only, Tina! 😀

Turns out, Tina totally knows the way to my heart…

Pretty silicone cupcake holders (I’ve never tried these before!!!)

IMG_7000

Appropriately-themed cupcake recipe cards & notepads

IMG_7001

IMG_7003

And this absolutely adorable apron! Is this not wicked cute, or what?!? I can’t WAIT to start putting all these goodies to good use.

IMG_7014

Thank you SO MUCH, Tina!!

Question for the Day:

What special touches do you like to put (if any) on the gifts you give away??

How I Beat Boredom On The Treadmill

Thanks to some tummy troubles, my appetite has been a little off today. 😳 I’m pretty sure I probably have my super-duper sugar intake as of late, plus the joys of being a lady to thank for today’s discomfort. Ahh well…life goes on!

I started things off with a little cereal combo: Quaker Oatmeal Squares + Fantastically Festive me & goji mix + skim milk.

IMG_7084

Along with my cereal & mug-o-joe, I also brought a perfectly ripe banana, which I snacked on mid-morning.

IMG_7082

By the time lunch rolled around, I really didn’t have too much of an appetite, yet I could feel my stomach grumbling…does anyone else ever get that feeling? It’s a weird one!

An always delicious pineapple flavored Chobani, topped with some Kashi Heart to Heart + granola

IMG_7086

Carrot sticks, red peppers, & grape tomatoes…all of which are on their last leg. 😯

IMG_7088

And an also-sad-looking pear which, despite it’s rather “homely” appearance, tasted quite fantastic.

IMG_7087

By the time I got home from work, all I really wanted to do was curl up on the couch in a ball while watching TV. However, something was telling me that I should really try to get moving. I weighed the pros and cons of skipping the workout, and of course, the cons totally outweighed the pros…it was a simple case of me just being lazy. 🙄

So I threw on the workout clothes, grabbed my iPod, and hopped onto the treadmill. I wasn’t feelin’ any HIIT workouts today, so I decided to just go for a steady, 3-mile run.

Now, steady for me is never one set speed. No matter what, I just cannot run at one speed. Even if it’s just a matter of varying the speeds from 6.0 – 7.5, I still have to do it. Here’s an example, which is what I did today:

Minutes Speed (mph)
0-3 4.0
3-5 6.0
5-7 7.0
7-9 6.5
9-11 7.5
11-13 6.0
13-15 7.0
15-17 6.5
17-19 7.5
19-21 6.0
21-23 7.0
23-25 6.5
25-27 7.5
27-28 6.5
28-32 4.0

By alternating my speeds every 2 minutes, it gives me mini goals of something to work towards. For me, it makes the time go by much quicker! Maybe it will do the same for you?!? 🙂

I was definitely glad that I got up and moving, because it helped a little with the tummy troubles and eventually got my appetite nice and ready for dinner. On the menu tonight?

IMG_7090

Turkey & Cheese Panini!

IMG_7093

I first coated the bread slices with some Eggplant Garlic Spread, and then topped it off with deli turkey and some fontina cheese that I picked up at the grocery store this weekend.

I’d never bought fontina cheese before, but I can certainly say this will not be the last time! Fontina is absolutely perfect for melting on panini sandwiches…just look at that oozing cheese! 😛

IMG_7091

A little added veggie bulk…

IMG_7092

‘Twas delicious! 😀

IMG_7089

I’m feeling I may need a little lovin’ from a special man later this evening…

IMG_7060

His name is Gingerbread. 😉

Question for the Evening:

How do you usually vary your treadmill runs/walks? Do you stay at one pace, or do you like to vary your speed?
