Don’t you just leave a reason to celebrate? It just makes a night out that much more fun!
Tonight, Jay and I knew we were both in the mood for some Italian, so we decided on Mangia. Mangia is a delicious Italian restaurant, which specializes in various Italian dishes, as well as their wood-fired pizza.
We started off with a celebratory bottle of wine :-P Usually, the only time I can get Jay to share a bottle of wine with me, is if we get a Riesling. I decided to “push my luck” and see if he’d go for something different, and to my surprise, he was cool with it! We ended up choosing this bottle of Pinot Grigio.
This was a pretty good bottle, but not one of my favorites. It was a full bodied wine, with hints of apple and pineapple. Jay said it reminded him of our Honeymoon, since Pinot Grigio was the only white wine they served at the resort. Ahhhh, St. Lucia, how I wish I was back 8)
Ok, back to reality! So I ended up having 2 glasses throughout dinner.
Dinner started off with a basket full of delicious carbs! Mangia makes their own bread, and this stuff is AWESOME, hands down.
Served with a little EVOO & balsamic vinegar (aka, my FAVE dipping combo with fresh bread). I ended up having 2 of these bad boys during dinner. (For those of you who have the ability to pass on the bread basket, PROPS to you! Because I know I sure can’t!)
Before dinner, I got a house salad with balsamic vinaigrette on the side. Ordering your salad dressing on the side is one of the easiest ways to curb portion control and calories. I hate when I forget to ask and my salad comes out drenched!
It was a pretty basic salad, but the dressing was delish, and the homemade croutons were super!
For dinner, I realized that I ended up ordering the same exact thing that I got the one and only other time we’ve come here! I guess my cravings are pretty consistent! ;) My dish was the Melanzana Rustica.
The Melanzana Rustica is sauteed eggplant, plum tomatoes, crushed red pepper flakes, fresh basil, & garlic. Tossed with rigatoni and fresh mozzarella.
In true “Courtney” fashion, I ended up changing a couple things (since I’m usually NEVER able to order a dish “as-is”…I don’t know why?) I ordered mine sans crushed red pepper flakes, since I’m a spicy wimp! And I also swapped the rigatoni for their whole wheat penne option. Whenever that option is given at a restaurant, I always try to take advantage!
This dish was REALLY good! The sauteed eggplant was cooked to just the right firmness, and the flavors of the basil, garlic, and pomodoro sauce all came together really well. As you can see, I did a pretty good job – it was FILLING (Or maybe it was all that bread I ate?)
Jay ordered the Pollo Con Tortellini which was chicken tenderloins and sun-dried tomatoes in a tomato cream sauce, tossed with cheese-filled tortellini. He loved it; and I don’t blame him…I snagged a bite, and it was DELISH!
Cheers to Being Home Owners!! :-D On our way out the door, I swiped two of these chocolate covered mints that were calling my name from a pretty jar. I’m pretty sure the label said “Courtney, here you go!”
I LOVE having a celebratory “Date Night” during the week! It’s always so fun. :) Jay and I are spending the rest of the evening watching two of our favorite “guilty pleasure” shows: Modern Family & Cougar Town! These two shows CRACK.ME.UP. Rarely do I “LOL” at a TV show, but these two are a whole other story!
Does anyone else watch either of these shows? What shows make you LOL?
